Minister of State (Seniors) and MP for Willowdale Visit Local Seniors Centre

 The Hon. Alice Wong, Minister of State (Seniors) and MP for Willowdale, Mr Cheungsen Leung will visit North York Seniors Centre on Tuesday July 12, 2011 from 9:00am – 10:00 am. During their visit the Minister will meet with members, volunteers and staff, and tour the Active Living Centre observing and take part in programs and activities including “Brain Bytes” a new and innovative program designed to sharpen the brain’s senses. The launch of the Brain Bytes program and a recent renovation to the lobby and Giftshoppe were made possible through funding from New Horizons for Seniors Program offered to seniors organizations by Human Resources and Skills Resources Canada.

 Minister Wong’s visit comes at an exciting time for NYSC, as they launch a new logo and organizational brand this month. Candace Thomson, Executive Director of North York Seniors Centre is looking forward to the visit stating, “We are pleased to welcome the Honorable Minister Wong to our Active Living Centre and the opportunity to showcase our programs and services, along with our organization’s new brand and logo.” 

 NYSC, a community support service organization for over 37 years provides a broad spectrum of programs and services that connects older adults to their community and assists them to live safely and independently in their homes. Program and services include personal support in the home; bathing, meal preparation and house keeping; as well as transportation, an Adult Day Program and an Active Living Centre located at 21 Hendon Avenue at Yonge and Finch. Since 2009 NYSC has provided Supportive Housing Services in two seniors’ apartment building along the Yonge Street corridor.
