The past 11 months have been tough – we can’t ignore the effect of 2020 on each of us. We have all been challenged to adapt to the new situation, and for some of us, the struggle is too much to handle alone. COVID-19 has hit our senior population hard.
We have all felt the emptiness of being physically distanced from our loved ones. If you have felt lonely at times, can you imagine how it is for the elderly who are living alone?
“I was just out of a hospital stay, desperately needing fresh vegetables and fruit. Without no one to call, I contacted NYSC`s team, who provided a fresh hamper and delivered it in less than two hours. I just could not believe it!” –NYSC client
The pandemic has closed our program doors; however, NYSC continues to provide essential support services to seniors and caregivers in the community. In addition:
- 3500 reassurance phone calls,
- delivered over 800 groceries and hampers,
- provided 1000 transportation rides to medical appointments.
- 250 virtual activities delivered via social media, Zoom, and by phone.
“NYSC has been a light in a dark room. For me has been all the wonderful programs they have been organizing on Zoom and phone. A variety of exercises, classes, Ted Talks, Coffee & Chat, word games, Spanish classes, and a variety of speakers in many topics.” – Eleonor.
To continue serving over 2500 seniors and caregivers in our community, WE NEED YOUR HELP. We don’t know what the future will bring, but we do know that together, WE CAN HELP SENIORS GET THROUGH THESE CHALLENGING TIMES.
“The girls who take care of me, they are like family. They help me with shopping, cleaning, bathing. It is just so wonderful! I don’t know how to thank them enough!” – NYSC Client
